Shanen has been involved in the fitness industry for 9 years as an instructor and for close to 17 years as a participant.  Shanen has known the importance of strength and fitness since she was a child. She was a competitive gymnast for 11 years and recruited by the Air Force Academy.  She ended up attending the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with her BS in Industrial Engineering then continued on several years later to complete her MBA.

After being in top shape as a gymnast, college, a desk job, and then kids lead to putting on extra weight and losing muscle tone.  After the birth of her first child, she started to attend fitness classes as well as concentrate on nutritional habits.  She managed to lose weight and maintain through the birth of her second child.

In 2003 she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.  Considered a “good cancer” to get compared to others, it was more aggressive than initially thought and she fought a battle for 3 years with 2 surgeries and radiation.  Through it all she continued to get to the gym and take classes with instructors and friends who motivated her and helped her to stay positive.  Experiencing how fitness and healthy habits helped her through a tough time, she decided to get her group fitness certification to help motivate others on the path to feeling better both physically and emotionally.

Shanen is certified to teach all group classes including RIPPED, and Pound.  Beyond teaching classes, Shanen enjoys spending time with her husband Wilson, 2 teenage sons Elliot and Quin and 2 rescue dogs Ginger and Meadow who remind her everyday how special life really is.
